Grow Delicious Vegetables in Your Garden
Summer is the perfect time to get your hands dirty and plant a garden full of delicious vegetables. Not only are homegrown veggies tastier than their store-bought counterparts, but they’re also more nutritious. Plus, gardening is a great way to get some exercise and enjoy some time outdoors. 1. Choose the right location.
When it comes to gardening, location is everything. Make sure you choose a spot that gets plenty of sunlight—vegetables need at least six hours of sun per day to thrive. You’ll also want to make sure the location you choose is close to a water source so you can easily water your plants.

Once you’ve chosen the perfect spot for your garden, it’s time to start prepping the soil. The first step is to test the pH level of the soil using a home testing kit—you want it to be between 6.0 and 7.0. If it’s too acidic or alkaline, you can adjust the pH level by adding lime or sulfur to the soil. Once the pH level is where it needs to be, you can add some compost or manure to help improve the quality of the soil.
3. Pick your plants.
Now comes the fun part: choosing which vegetables you want to grow in your garden! If you’re a beginner gardener, we recommend sticking with plants that are easy to care for, like tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and squash. Once you’ve got a few seasons of gardening under your belt, you can start experimenting with more challenging plants like Brussels sprouts and eggplants.
4. Plant Your Seeds Or Seedlings.
Once you’ve got your plants picked out, it’s time to get them in the ground! If you’re starting with seeds, plant them about ¼ inch deep in rows that are spaced about 12 inches apart—you’ll need to thin them out later once they start sprouting up. If you’re using seedlings that you bought from a nursery, plant them at the same depth they were growing at in their pots—again spacing them 12 inches apart in rows. Water regularly and fertilize according to package directions, and soon enough you’ll have a bumper crop of fresh veggies!
